MEET THE ARTISTS

NICHOLAS DALEY IMAGINES RE-CHARGE BLACK PEPPER

Nicholas Daley’s dedication to his heritage and craftsmanship has expanded his influence beyond fashion into music, arts, and culture. Known for his collaborations with Fred Perry, Mulberry, and the Southbank Centre, he’s now the perfect fit for Molton Brown’s Artists of Note. Daley’s unique interpretation of Re-charge Black Pepper—a fragrance with woody, citrus notes connected to his heritage—reflects his vision beyond the confines of fashion.

Daley describes his creative process as a “cross-pollination of different creatives” and values collaboration, making his partnership with Master Perfumer Jacques Chabert a natural fit. Their shared respect for craftsmanship and innovation resulted in a powerful exchange of ideas, blending rule-breaking and tradition. Their meeting explores scent through the lens of heritage, family, and shared memories, creating an authentic representation of Re-charge Black Pepper.

GALA COLIVET DENNISON IMAGINES ROSE DUNES

Rose Dunes, created by Senior Perfumer Philippe Paparella, is inspired by personal memories and experiences in the Middle East. The fragrance blends saffron, rose, patchouli Sulawesi, and Oudh accord, reflecting Paparella’s memories of his grandmother’s desert rose crystal from Algeria. He recalls its formation—a mix of sand and selenite shaped by heat, wind, and rain—capturing the desert’s essence. His fascination with these natural conditions continued when he moved to Dubai, influencing his creation of Rose Dunes.

Colivet Dennison’s artistic interpretation of the scent is driven by a visceral response to the elements in the fragrance—saffron, sand, and fire. Her process, described as physically demanding yet meditative, mirrors the intense elements in Rose Dunes, allowing her to craft an expression that evolves with her personal growth and techniques.

DR JOHN COOPER CLARKE IMAGINES COASTAL CYPRESS & SEA FENNEL

John Cooper Clarke, the self-proclaimed punk poet, captivates with his blend of humor, irreverence, and reflections on his 40-plus-year career. Born in 1949 in Salford, Greater Manchester, Clarke’s experiences span Mod days in the 1960s, poetry gigs around Manchester, and performances with bands like Joy Division and the Sex Pistols. He’s also known for his 1982 poem, later adapted into an Arctic Monkeys song—a link shared with perfumer Carla Chabert, an Arctic Monkeys fan who wore their tour T-shirt on set.

Despite only recently discovering Clarke’s work, Chabert praises his poetic rhythm and wordplay. Their collaboration quickly evolves into a natural exchange on music, summers by the coast, and the power of scent. Their conversation is filled with warmth and mutual admiration, as if they’ve known each other for years. Even Clarke, rarely at a loss for words, is momentarily struck by Chabert’s heartfelt appreciation of his poetry.

MASTER PERFUMER

JACQUES CHABERT

With over 50 years' experience, Chabert is a fierce innovator and sees fragrance as an expression of the self. He created Re-Charge Black Pepper as a personal project and without a brief, and it remains an icon to this day.

Having lived in Dubai, China and now Brazil, Paparella draws inspiration from his surroundings and natural landscapes, as well as memories of his mother and grandmother – two of his greatest influences.
