DISCOVER MATIERE PREMIERE
In 2016 Aurélien Guichard, together with his family, founded a Rose Centifolia organic farm in the Grasse area. He is the only perfumer to own and produce his own Rose Centifolia. He cultivates thousands of roses on an exceptional terroir, recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2018. For Aurélien, growing his own roses was a way to reconnect with the essence of work as a perfumer, creating the fragrance itself but also supervising the quality and production methods of the raw materials.
Matiere Premiere does not use any synthetic colouring agents in their fragrances, the colours of the perfumes are natural and can evolve without altering the quality. Aurélien idea’s take shape around exceptional natural ingredients, with many olfactive facets, his work then reveals and sublimates the best that nature has to offer.
NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Matiere Premiere Fragrances are built around one central natural ingredient, used in its highest dosage. He reveals the unique texture and the most beautiful facets of each central ingredient, with contemporary, direct, understandable fragrances.

The house produces its own roses and tuberoses, which are organically farmed in the Grasse region.

UNIQUE QUALITY
Matiere premiere perfumes contain between 85% and 92% natural ingredients.
They are vegan and phthalate free. Their color is given exclusively by their ingredients, without any coloring agent. “Like a rich and mighty wine, our perfumes are concentrates of exceptional natural materials. I pay particular attention to pushing each stage of aging, from maturation to maceration, to ensure a unique quality.”

INITIAL IDEA: "A woody, vegetal musk"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Ambrette Seed Peru
CREATIVE APPROACH: Around the Ambrette, reinforce the woody note with Virginia Cedar Oil. A Fig leaf note underlines the vegetal facet. The musky facet is amplified by Ambrettolide Supreme. Ambroxan is used to bind wood to musks.
Santal Austral
INITIAL IDEA: "A sensual white wood"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Organic Sandalwood Oil Australia
CREATIVE APPROACH: Emphasize the creamy velvety facet with an almond milk Iris Absolute Tuscany note. Strengthen the comfortable and addictive facet with Benzoin Absolute Laos and Tonka Bean Absolute Venezuela.
Cologne Cedrat
INITIAL IDEA: "A trail of Citrus notes"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Citron Oil Italy
CREATIVE APPROACH: Black Pepper Oil Madagascar and Pink Pepper Oil Argentina are used to amplify the fresh spicy facet. Bergamot Oil Italy and Mate Absolute Paraguay emphasize the tea facet to prolong the freshness.
Neroli Oranger
INITIAL IDEA: "A work around the purity of orange blossom"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Orange Blossom Absolute Tunisia
CREATIVE APPROACH: Highlight the fresh and radiant facet with Neroli Oil Lebanon and Bergamot Oil Italy. Amplify the delicate floral character with Ylang-Ylang Oil Comoros and Floral Musks.
Bois d'Ebene
INITIAL IDEA: "A dark ambery wood"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Guaiac Wood Oil Paraguay
CREATIVE APPROACH: Strengthen the wood density of Guaiac with Patchouli Oil Indonesia and Cypriol Oil India. The ambery facet is accentuated by the addition of Cabreuva Oil Brazil. Juniper berry highlights the spicy-fresh woody character.
Encens Suave
INITIAL IDEA: "A black incense, addictive and carnal"
MAIN INGREDIENT: Somalia Resin Incense
CREATIVE APPROACH: The sensuality of the Incense note is accentuated by Labdanum Absolute Andalusia and Benzoin Absolute Laos. The addictive facet is supported by Coffee Extraction Venezuela and Vanilla Absolute Madagascar.
Radical Rose
INITIAL IDEA: "An Overdose of Rose Absolute ".
MAIN INGREDIENT: Rose Centifolia Absolute France, extracted from roses organically grown by MATIERE PREMIERE.
CREATIVE APPROACH: Work on the highest concentration in the world of Rose Centifolia Absolute. Exacerbate the bright, spicy facets of the Rose with Saffron and Pepper Berries Oil Jamaica. Highlight the dark, woody facets with Patchouli Oil Indonesia and Labdanum Absolute Andalusia.
Falcon Leather
INITIAL IDEA: create a leathery scent inspired by falconer's gloves
MAIN INGREDIENT: a vegetal leather note, Birch Tar Finland
CREATIVE APPROACH: Exacerbate the power of the note at the start thanks to Saffron. Unfold and enrich the texture of Birch Tar to evoke both sides of leather: highlight the smooth full-grain side with Ciste Labdanum Andalusia, amplify the soft suede side with Benzoin Absolute Laos.
French Flower
INITIAL IDEA: ”The intoxicating smell of a tuberose field at night”
MAIN INGREDIENT: Absolute and Enfleurage Tuberose France, extracted from tuberoses organically grown by MATIERE PREMIERE
CREATIVE APPROACH: Create a bouquet of Tuberose with Absolute and Enfleurage of Tuberose petals. Nigeria Ginger amplifies the whiteness of the flower. Chinese Tea Leaf Essence and a Green Pear accord underline the vegetal character of this stemmed flower.
