Eau Nabati by Diptyque
A deep, powerful fragrance that captures the nuances of a paradise garden and is inspired by the harmony of opposites between the hot sand of the desert and the freshness of an oasis.
A salute to the luxuriant gardens in which Diptyque’s well-traveled founders, Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, and Yves Coueslant, loved to take a break and savor the myriad delights and vibrant beauty of their surroundings.
Nature, be it wild or tamed, was the original creative catalyst for this trio – the dearly cherished raw material for the Maison’s olfactory creations. A living, fertile force that captivated their imaginations, inspiring the narratives associated with each fragrance. The garden was their favorite playing field: the ultimate union of art, botany, and architecture. A permanent source of enchantment.
Eau Nabati is the latest incarnation of that enchantment. It’s a garden of dreams – a garden glimpsed in dreams. A small island of multi-faceted scents, of golden rays of light that bring out the richness of the vegetation, play upon the waters of the pools, and accentuate the motifs in the zelliges – geometrical compositions assembled from a multitude of colored earthenware tiles.
Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, who loved this traditional geometrical art form from the Maghreb, created countless such patterns, modernizing the drawing style.
Eau Nabati is an eau de parfum developed by Fabrice Pellegrin and conjures up images of a wondrous oasis in the middle of the vastness of the desert, between hot sand and the welcome freshness of trees and clear water.
The striking contrast, suggestive of a mirage, is made possible by the compositional balance of this amber perfume. The fresh, green qualities of bergamot, here given added zest by petitgrain, are enveloped in notes of immortelle flowers – rounded, warm, and amber, evoking hot desert sands – and of balm of Peru. Hot and cold, united in a single perfume.
The harmonious blending of opposing elements is also reflected in the landscape that illustrates this fragrance, engraved on the two golden metal ovals of the bottle. Koralie, a French artist whose graphic compositions draw inspiration from the symmetry found in nature, conceived these illustrations as a path for others to follow. A path that leads to the garden of Eau Nabati. On the front, the artist presents the garden as seen from outside.
Beyond the sand dunes in the forefront, a fountain surmounted by palm trees beckons us to rest awhile and explore. The promenade of the imagination can begin. On the reverse, the interior of the garden of paradise is majestically revealed. And now the garden has a fragrance and a name. Eau Nabati is an olfactory translation of an idealized stroll through the very heart of a lush natural setting, miraculous and delicate.
